From a dream to a reality, Godly Christian e-Cards has come into existence. Back in the mid to late 90's, ecards hit the scene of the web dazzling their audience with movement, interactivity, and sound. When I first saw an ecard, I recall being amazed that something so neat could work on a dial up connection. In addition, my mind quickly started racing to all the possibilities of what could be made with this technology. Nevertheless, I knew nothing about how these cards were created nor about the programming that was involved in making the site. Over the course of the last couple years, I have been acquiring the skills needed to make this dream a reality.
Though the dream of making this Christian ecard site has been in the back of my mind for nearly 15 years, the actual planning and preparations to make this site for distributing free Christian ecards began in mid 2007. At that time, I was studying and researching a programming language for the purpose of further developing www.GodlyChristianMusic.com (a free Christian music website). The skills I was acquiring were inspiring me to explore the possibility of doing further free Christian web projects when that one was completed. My mind eventually came to think about doing something with ecards and in prayerful consideration I pondered potential of making an ecard website. Over time, a vision was developed which would initially be put on hold.
There were many things that needed to be learned before any large free Christian websites could be developed. Though I had already learned one programming language (php) a few years before, it seemed that it would be good to also learn a newer language called asp.net. This was a slow process for me that contained many obstacles, but in time the foundation of the language was understood. Once the language was basically learned, I acquired a legal version of an Adobe software package. From there, I began the process of learning how to use programs like Photoshop, Dreamweaver, and Fireworks to create a design for the free Christian music website that would let its users know that it was a high quality site. Over the course of about a year, the free music site was designed and programmed. Now you can visit it at www.GodlyChristianMusic.com.
Once the free Christian music site was done, my efforts focused on learning Adobe Flash. For the next several months, I sought to get a solid grasp of Flash's design environment and programming language. After that season, much planning was done on how the site would actually work and a couple different design ideas were created. Following that period, the programming and database work was done in order set up the backbone of the site. Once the programming and design were integrated together, the need for ecards to place into the site had come.
From the beginning, the vision I had for the Christian ecards on the site was that they would challenge and inspire people to turn from sin and live a whole hearted life for Jesus Christ. I was tired of all the fluffy wishy washy ecards that cluttered the Internet and hoped to create Christian ecards that actually had some depth. In addition, I hoped to make ecards that would start revival, promote holiness, and spur people on toward devotion to Jesus. Some of the ecards would be Christian e-tracts purposed for evangelism. Holidays and special events are often times when people are thinking differently about life and are more ready to receive things from those who desire to awaken them to life with God. Therefore, the goal for the ecards was to draw people to Jesus at the most opportune moments.
On Father's day of 2009, I sent the first ecard on the site to my Dad. It was a card that thanked him, for his love toward me that taught me about God's love for me. As time goes on, more ecards are regularly being made and added to the site. Take a look at what we have and inspire someone else to be devoted to Jesus with what you find...
